The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) released a report called “A Better Life? Confidence and Consumption Among Chinese’s Consumers,” a report commissioned by Bayer, which aims to gauge Chinese consumer confidence -- both urban and rural – and identify consumption priorities that are assumed to be highly connected in driving consumer spending. The survey findings revealed that across the sample groups, consumers are overwhelmingly optimistic about their future but remain concerned about their living environment and healthcare.

But it is not too late: The planet can be saved, for example by using solar energy and wind power or by recycling. This is the message of the painting by 14-year-old Tin Chi Ting Coco from Hong Kong, who has been named the winner of the 19th International Children’s Painting Competition on the Environment organized jointly by Bayer AG and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Bayer increases sales and earnings in the second quarter
The Bayer Group once again achieved gains in sales and earnings in the second quarter of 2010. “MaterialScience has left the crisis behind and saw business expand more strongly than expected. Volumes have returned to the pre-crisis level,” explained Management Board Chairman Werner Wenning on Thursday following the publication of the interim report for the second quarter. Sales at HealthCare improved slightly, while the subgroup’s earnings matched the prior-year level. CropScience was down year on year.
