Organization
The Bayer Group in Greater China (P.R. China, Hong Kong, Taiwan) is led by the management holding company, with subgroups and production joint ventures. The signing of a broadly based cooperation agreement between Bayer and the Ministry for Chemical Industry in 1993 laid the foundations for expanding business activities in China. In 1994, Bayer (China) Ltd. was established as a holding company in Beijing to coordinate technology transfer and market development, and support the preparation and implementation of joint venture projects. The company relocated to Shanghai at the end of 2003.
a. Business Units
Bayer is today represented in Greater China by 23 companies across the group, including the subgroups Bayer CropScience, Bayer HealthCare and Bayer MaterialScience, as well as a service company Bayer Technology and Engineering (Shanghai) Company Limited under Bayer Technology Services.
b. Workforce
In April 2007, Michael Koenig came on board as the president of the Bayer Group in Greater China. The group now employs around 6,500 people across a wide range of functions.
